In March 2006 we set out to cycle from the UK to Tibet. We didn't quite make it to Tibet, but over the six months we were away we had a great adventure cycling across Europe and Central Asia.
(NB. For those of you who may not be familiar with the term, "knackered" means broken or very tired.)
Our route
We cycled 3,500km across Europe to Istanbul, then, due to problems getting a visa for Iran, we flew to Tajikistan and cycled another 2,500km along the Pamir Highway and through Kyrgyzstan.
We couldn't face cycling in England, in March, so we persuaded our friend Mike Weston to drive us down Dover (thanks Mike). Remarkably, for what was to follow. the sun was shining and it was a glorious day.
After buying the tickets, when we got on the bikes to cycle to the ferry it was the first time we had pedalled them fully loaded in over four years and they felt as if the frames were made out of rubber.
